Wax Cacoon

(a monologue with movement...it actually starts with "The Road", track 8 on "LIlyonyx..")

Hey....

I haven't seen you in awhile,
I forgot what color your aura is...
You are a potent, spazzed out green!
Green is the color of the heart chakra
I think
According to a lady on the radio
it's pink
She was describing the colors we're gonna see on a wildflower walk out on Buttermilk Trail next Saturday
She said we're gonna lie on our bellies and get sooo close to those flowers
it's gonna feel like we shrunk and crawled up inside

Ever want to hide in a flower?

I did some work out by Buttermilk Trail,
Near Bloomfeild and Wildwood Lake.
I took care of a girl named Jenny. She has spinabiphida,
her body's all curled and contorted
only way she can communicate is with her eyes, her smile,
and a humming sound at the base of her throat

but most of the time, she just gazes into space
and I wonder
if her mind has quieted to a point where only a moth flys free,
shedding sputtering blue sparks,
flapping silent remarks,
leaving light patterns behind its path through her mind,
and that keeps Jenny satiated, satisfied

(singing)
If you're a good soldier, your body takes over,
you do what you were trained to do
If you're a good soldier, your body takes over
you don't even think anymore
Oh, I'm just walkin', I'm just dancin'
I'm just walkin', contra dancin'
Takin' every chance I can, just a'jumpin' from tree to tree
(beat, beat, beat)
Let it be.

I read a story once about a man who contracted a disease
that shut down all of his capacities
leaving him trapped
out of space and time, like Helen Keller
only, not only, could he not see, hear or speak

He couldn't move his body.
couldn't whistle, winny, chortle, grunt, grin, spin,
shake it out, nothing, nothing
just think
and wink his left eye

and with that thinking, linking eye, he went winking and winking
beating his lashes against his soft cheek

until he had developed a language of winks and could speak
Tell his story.
You know what he called it?
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

I watched a caterpillar crawl across my kitchen floor this morning,
I thought, what a cheeky creature!
That's an awfully long way for such a small bug.

It made me want to go camping in the desert,
or better yet, live in a van,
follow the river from canada to mexico
in one spiralingly brief life binge

I can imagine my children making the return trip

What do you think?

What are you thinking?

I think you're thinking you want to dig
your fingers into some red burnt umber dirt,
muscle mold orange clay,
You want to put lemon juice in your hair,
watch moss until it grows in yer skin

You want to eat strawberries, pomagranites,
mandarines, miner's lettuce
combust bracken fungus from a yellow locust tree

cuz you know there will be a day when
all will go purple and blue

I dream about it
when I'm asleep at night

a thick teal dusk will seep through a crack in my window
and a wheel of blue ether will spin under my blanket,
propelling me up and over the sill
bumping my bottom on tree branches,

I will be rinsed in the drifting,
leaked clean of metals and toxins
I will be all water or all air
and my memory will hold no matter

i'll touch my tongue to a blue sun
and my crayons will desolve like glitter in salt water.
and you will be there with me.
My moth will fly free,
and all of us will sink
deeper and deeper
until we no longer see.

(singing)
I've got a cornflower sky, third eye, dragonfly
hoverin' round my finger tips,
I'm humming through grass, pink wax planting
just a'strummin' the tree trunks, swingin' my hips
and I'm gettin' into a rhythm with the weather,
I want to be willing, i want to be true to my call
a spark of recognition simmers in my heart,
I take a long, pink, geranium fall

Yes, i try to remember why I've come here
I want to be willing, I want to be true to my core
cuz I have never done this,
we have never done this,
I have never done this,
no, We have never done this
We have never done this,
but i think we have been here
before...
