Sleeping Beauty
(lyrics with guitar)

you, sleeping beauty,
are the first step i take to get past myself
yours are the only ears
tender enough to hear me

i'm on a journey
i've got a woman to talk to
i'm stormin' the castle
they told her she'd be happy there

if you want to wait for that prince
i guarantee one will show.
he'll batten down the hatches
saddle up his horse
and take you where he go

but i'm here to whisper in your ear
today is the dawn of a new day
you climb on your own horse
and find your own way to pray

got to find your own way to pray                                                                                                                         "firewater" Kelly Rivera

'cause the dream that you see
behind your sky of eyelids
is only a mask in the shadow
of what you came here with

but the curtain falls away
the masquerade gets drenched
in the rain, sun comes out
you're center-stage, the kiss
you seek is just a breath away

we are all around you now
we are waiting for you

but you gotta wake up

i'm standin' in the rain, waitin'
for my beloved, day-dreamin'
a fantasy every chance i can.
he's always so far away
a seeking sage, a zen warrior
somebody embodying
everything i could want in a man

but once again i fall from my tower,
picture perfect scaffolding,
go tumblin' to the dirt
blunt
reminder of my infinity,
i paint my face with clay
move into battle
til i see the whites of your eyes
then i take out my rattle
and i shake it at the sky,
stomp my feet, sing my soul
on high, i summon in my guides
to keep me safe
through the subtle realm
i move with grace
and this war dance
has me so hungry for your embrace

i got one more round in a cycle of lives
i think that this is gonna be the last
i'm gonna free my light, gonna be the light
ain' gonna let this opportunity pass!

she is waking up, stretching her limbs
rubbin' the dream out of her eyes
she's mighty hungry, and full of wonder
at the truth of the big surprise

you are all around me now
you are waiting for me

will i wake up?

i go to Folsom Prison, commune
with the fellas through poetry
we ponder our existence
listen- how the word sets us free

there's lots of guards, lots of gates,
lots of times i gotta sign my name
i pass men in cages, come to class,
we shuffle through the pain

it's the same process every week,
every year, every season
the story unfolds
like layers of an onion peel,
and this healing shriek of truth
that we wrestle to the page
it calms the storm of our emotions,
it dissolves our rage

some of these guys might have
killed someone or raped a woman
such as me, but there's no time
for fear or hatred
in this awakening eternity
i wanna know what you've got to say
for yourself, wanna hear what you
have to say, i think we all
gotta dive into this poetry
and find our own way to pray

got to find our own way to pray

we're just synchin' up, sinkin' in
to this teeter-totter eternity
just synchin' up, sinkin' into this
teeter-totter enternity
synchin' up, sinkin' in
to sleeping beauty

sleeping beauty

sleeping beauty

we've got one more chance
to make this whole
it ain't about right or wrong.
no matter who i am, no matter
what i do, i gotta sing my healing song!
the tug of war between good and evil
turns into a jamboree,
illusions shatter, starseed scatters,
the truth shall set us free!

we are all around us now
we are waiting for We
